Quick answer
Attach the RAM Torque Medium Mount to a 3/4" to 1" rail, then secure your action camera using the included ball adapter and hardware.
Why the RAM Torque Medium Mount Works for Action Cameras
The RAM Torque Medium Mount (RAM-B-408-75-1-GOP1U) combines a quick-install rail clamp with an action camera ball adapter, making it ideal for vehicles, ATVs, or boats. The interlocking teeth on the adapter prevent the camera from twisting loose during rough rides, and the included sizing inserts let you dial in a tight fit on different rail diameters without extra parts.
What You Need Before You Start
You'll need the RAM Torque Medium Mount kit, your action camera, and a Phillips screwdriver (or the tool that came with your camera). No drilling or permanent modification is required. The mount works on round or square rails between 3/4" and 1" thick.
Step-by-Step Installation
- Choose the Right Sizing Insert: Open the clamp and slide in the sizing insert that matches your rail diameter. The kit includes inserts for 3/4", 7/8", and 1" rails. Push the insert until it clicks into place. Using the wrong insert can leave the mount loose. Test-fit before tightening.
- Position the Mount on the Rail: Place the open clamp around your chosen rail section. Make sure the ball socket faces the direction you want the camera to point. Close the clamp lever until it snaps shut. A common mistake is mounting the clamp upside-down, which limits camera tilt range. Check the ball orientation before closing.
- Attach the Action Camera Adapter: Align the action camera ball adapter's interlocking teeth with the camera's mounting slot. Insert the provided screw and tighten it with a Phillips screwdriver until the adapter is snug against the camera body. Over-tightening can strip the plastic threads on some camera housings. Stop when the adapter no longer rotates freely.
- Secure the Camera to the Mount: Slide the ball adapter into the RAM Torque socket. Tighten the knob on the side of the socket until the camera holds its position firmly. Test by gently pushing the camera—it should not sag or wobble. If the camera droops after a few minutes, the knob needs another quarter-turn. Check it after your first ride.
