Quick Answer
Roll your 2 person puffy blanket tightly from one short end, then stuff it into its included stuff sack or a compression sack to minimize bulk and protect the insulation.
Why Packing Method Matters for a Two-Person Blanket
A 2 person puffy blanket is larger than a standard throw, so how you pack it directly affects how much space it takes in your backpack or duffel. The wrong method can also compress the insulation unevenly, reducing warmth over time.
Rumpl’s two-person blankets, like the Backcountry 2 Person Puffy and Original Puffy 2 Person, use synthetic insulation that bounces back well if packed correctly. The key is to avoid crushing the fill in the same spot repeatedly.
How to Pack Your 2 Person Puffy Blanket in 5 Steps
- 1. Lay the blanket flat and shake it out: Spread the blanket on a clean, dry surface. Smooth out any folds or wrinkles so the insulation is evenly distributed. This prevents lumps that make packing harder. A common mistake is skipping this step and stuffing a wrinkled blanket, which creates uneven bulk.
- 2. Fold it lengthwise into thirds: Bring one long edge toward the center, then fold the opposite edge over it. You’ll have a long, narrow rectangle about the width of a standard sleeping pad. Check that the fold lines are straight—crooked folds waste space inside the sack.
- 3. Roll tightly from one short end: Start at the bottom and roll toward the top, pressing out air as you go. A tight, even roll minimizes trapped air and makes the blanket fit into a smaller stuff sack. If you roll too loosely, the blanket will take up more room and be harder to push into the sack.
- 4. Place the roll into the stuff sack seam-first: Insert the rolled blanket with the seam of the roll facing the bottom of the sack. Push it in gently, then use your palm to press it down and make room for the rest. Don’t force it—if it doesn’t fit, unroll and re-roll tighter rather than jamming it in.
- 5. Cinch the drawcord and clip the carabiner: Pull the drawcord tight to seal the sack, then clip the attached carabiner to a loop on your pack or tent. This keeps the blanket accessible and off the ground. Leaving the cord loose can let the blanket shift inside the sack and create pressure points on the insulation.
