Quick answer
To pack a bento lunch with the Mepal Campus Edelstahl Bento box, start with the removable insert for dry items, add a protein and veggies, and finish with fruit or a treat in the main compartment.
Why the removable insert matters
The Campus Edelstahl Bento box includes a removable bento insert, which lets you separate wet and dry foods. This keeps sandwiches from getting soggy and prevents flavors from mixing, making it easier to pack a varied lunch that stays appetizing until lunchtime.
Trade-off: stainless steel vs plastic
Stainless steel is more durable and doesn't absorb odors or stains like plastic can. However, it's heavier and not microwave-safe, so plan for foods that are meant to be eaten cold or at room temperature. This box is a solid choice for kids who need a tough lunchbox that can handle daily use.
Step-by-step packing guide
- Start with the removable insert: Place the removable insert in the main compartment and fill it with dry items like crackers, cheese cubes, or cut veggies. This keeps them separate from anything moist. Check that the insert sits securely to avoid mixing during transport.
- Add a protein and a veggie: Use the main compartment for a protein source like sliced chicken, hard-boiled eggs, or hummus, and add a side of cherry tomatoes, cucumber slices, or bell pepper strips. Aim for at least two food groups to make the lunch more balanced.
- Finish with fruit or a treat: Fill any remaining space with fruit like grapes, apple slices, or a small treat. The included fork is handy for eating these pieces without needing extra cutlery. Keep fruit in a separate small container if you're worried about it making other foods wet.
