Quick answer
Start by sorting the large pieces, then build the sky background and work up to the air vehicles. This method keeps toddlers engaged and avoids frustration.
Why floor puzzles work for young kids
Floor puzzles like Flight have oversized pieces that are easier for small hands to grasp and manipulate. The large 20" x 30" size means kids can spread out and work on the floor without a table.
The Flight theme appeals to curious minds
The Flight puzzle features biplanes, rocket ships, and hot air balloons. Kids naturally enjoy talking about flying things, which keeps them interested in completing the puzzle.
Step-by-step puzzle building with kids
- Step 1: Spread out the pieces: Open the box and dump all 35 pieces on a clean floor. Let your child help turn each piece picture-side up. This sorting step helps them see all the images. Check that no pieces are missing before you start.
- Step 2: Find the edge pieces: Look for pieces with a straight edge. These form the border. Point out the straight edges to your child and let them try to fit the corners first. If your child gets stuck, gently guide their hand to the correct spot.
- Step 3: Build the sky background: Separate pieces that are mostly blue sky. Show your child how the sky pieces connect. This builds confidence because the sky has fewer details. Don't worry if the sky pieces are upside down – they still fit together.
- Step 4: Add the air vehicles: Now place the pieces with airplanes, rockets, and balloons. Let your child decide where each vehicle goes. Praise their choices even if the piece isn't perfect. Common mistake: forcing a piece that doesn't fit. Teach your child to try a different piece first.
- Step 5: Finish and celebrate: Once all pieces are in, admire the completed puzzle together. Use the rope handle to lift the puzzle and store it flat or in the box. Store the puzzle in a dry place to keep the pieces from warping.
