How to store a sealed TCG case in 5 steps
- Choose the right location: Pick a spot with stable temperature (60-75°F / 15-24°C) and low humidity (below 50%). Avoid attics, garages, and basements where conditions change often. Common mistake: storing cases near windows or vents where sunlight or drafts hit them.
- Elevate the case off the floor: Place the case on a shelf or pallet to avoid moisture from concrete floors and to improve air circulation. A plastic storage bin works too. Never set a case directly on concrete—moisture can wick into the cardboard.
- Keep it flat and stable: Store the case flat on its largest side so the weight is evenly distributed. Do not stand it on its end or stack other heavy objects on top. Stacking cases is fine, but keep the pile low (2-3 high max) to avoid crushing bottom boxes.
- Protect from light and pests: Keep the case out of direct sunlight—UV rays fade the art and weaken the shrink wrap. Also, store it away from food or pet areas to avoid attracting insects or rodents. A cardboard box or opaque plastic tote adds an extra layer of light and pest protection.
- Check periodically without opening: Every few months, inspect the case for signs of moisture, pests, or damage. Do not break the factory seal unless you intend to open the case. If you notice a musty smell or damp spots, move the case to a drier location immediately.
