Quick answer
Style a rattan tray with mother of pearl accents by using it as a catch-all on a coffee table, a soap dish in a bathroom, or a display base on a shelf. Its natural texture and iridescent inlay bring warmth and light to any room.
Why rattan and mother of pearl work together
Rattan adds organic texture and a handcrafted feel, while mother of pearl introduces a soft shimmer that catches the light. Together they create a balanced look that suits coastal, boho, and even contemporary interiors. The contrast between the woven rattan border and the smooth shell inlay makes the tray a focal point without overwhelming the space.
Step-by-step styling ideas
- Coffee table catch-all: Place the 35cm tray in the center of your coffee table. Arrange a small vase, a candle, and a remote control or coasters inside. The tray groups items and prevents clutter from spreading. Common mistake: overcrowding the tray. Leave about 30% empty space so the mother of pearl inlay remains visible.
- Bathroom soap dish or caddy: Set the 30cm tray on the bathroom counter. Use it to hold a soap dispenser, a small plant, or a few rolled washcloths. The natural rattan resists humidity better than you might expect, but avoid soaking it. Checkpoint: wipe the tray dry after each use if it gets wet, to preserve the rattan and shell finish.
- Shelf or entryway display: Place the tray on a shelf or console table and layer a stack of books, a small sculpture, or a single stem vase inside. The mother of pearl inlay reflects light, drawing the eye to the arrangement. Common mistake: using the tray as a flat base for a single large object. The tray works best when you add two or three smaller items at different heights.
