Quick answer
The Large Try Both Kit gives you 12 diaper changes with prefolds and fitted diapers plus covers, so you can test both styles on your older baby before committing to a full stash.
Why the Large Try Both Kit works for older babies
Once your baby outgrows newborn sizes, you need diapers that handle more output and active movement. The Large Try Both Kit is sized for babies about 20 to 27 pounds, which covers many older babies and early toddlers. It includes both Cloth-eez Prefolds and Cloth-eez Workhorse fitteds, so you can compare absorbency and fit without buying two separate kits.
The kit comes with three Thirsties Duo Wrap covers in size Two with snap fasteners. These covers adjust to fit a range of leg and waist sizes, which is helpful as your baby grows. The included GMD Slide Lock Pins are only needed if you choose the large prefolds for fastening on a fuller baby.
Prefolds vs. fitteds: what to expect
Prefolds are flat rectangles you fold and secure with pins or a Snappi. They offer customizable absorbency because you can fold extra layers where your baby needs them most. Fitteds (the Workhorse diapers) are shaped like a disposable and have built-in absorbency, so they are easier to put on but take longer to dry.
The kit includes six large or medium prefolds and six Workhorse diapers. Try both during the day to see which you prefer for quick changes versus heavy wetting. Many parents use fitteds at night and prefolds during the day.
How to set up and use the Large Try Both Kit
- Prep the diapers before first use: Wash all prefolds and Workhorse diapers 3–5 times with hot water and a mild detergent to reach full absorbency. Covers only need one wash. Skip fabric softener, which reduces absorbency. Under-prepping is the most common mistake. If diapers leak early, they likely need more washes.
- Choose your fold for prefolds: Lay the prefold flat, fold into thirds lengthwise, and place it in the cover. For a boy, add extra layers in front; for a girl, add them in the middle. Secure with a Snappi or the included GMD Slide Lock Pins if using large prefolds on a fuller baby. Practice the fold on a dry diaper first. The Angel Wing fold works well for active older babies.
- Fit the Workhorse fitteds: Snap or pin the Workhorse diaper onto your baby like a disposable. It has built-in absorbency, so no folding is needed. Pull the cover over the fitted, ensuring the leg gaskets are snug but not tight. Workhorse diapers are bulkier than prefolds under clothes. Size up pajamas if needed.
- Adjust the Thirsties Duo Wrap cover: Snap the cover to the smallest setting that still allows two fingers to fit between the cover and your baby's waist. The snap settings let you adjust as your baby grows within the 20–27 pound range. A too-loose cover causes leaks. Check the leg elastic each time you put it on.
- Rotate and wash: Use the kit for 12 changes, then wash everything together. Remove inserts from covers before washing. Dry prefolds and Workhorse diapers on medium heat; hang covers to preserve elastic. Do not stuff wet diapers into a pail without rinsing. A dry pail with a wet bag works fine for most families.
