Quick answer

Attach a carrier extender between your carrier's waist belt and buckle to add extra length for a snug, comfortable fit. The MiaMily Extender Belt adds 50 cm and is compatible with the HIPSTER™ Plus and Smart waist belts.

Why you might need a carrier extender

Standard carrier waist belts typically adjust up to 130 cm. If you have a larger waist or wear bulky clothing, that range may not be enough for a secure fit. A carrier extender adds extra length so the waist belt can close properly and distribute your baby's weight evenly across your hips.

Using a carrier without a proper fit can cause back strain or make the carrier slip. An extender is a simple, low-cost fix that keeps babywearing comfortable for caregivers of all sizes.

How to attach and use a carrier extender

  1. Check compatibility: Confirm that your carrier's waist belt uses a buckle system that accepts an extender. The MiaMily Extender Belt works with MiaMily HIPSTER™ Plus and Smart waist belts. If your carrier is a different brand, check the buckle shape and size. Using an incompatible extender can cause the buckle to slip or fail.
  2. Unbuckle the waist belt completely: Open the waist belt buckle and separate the two ends. You will insert the extender between the buckle and the belt strap. Do not try to thread the extender while the belt is still buckled — it won't fit.
  3. Attach the extender to the belt strap: Slide the extender's loop end over the free end of the waist belt strap. Push it all the way to the buckle so the extender sits flush against the buckle housing. If the extender is not pushed fully to the buckle, the remaining strap may be too short to adjust properly.
  4. Buckle the extender to the other side: Take the buckle end of the extender and click it into the female side of the waist belt buckle. You should hear a firm click. Tug gently to confirm it is locked. A loose click means the extender is not fully seated — re-insert until you hear a solid click.
  5. Adjust the waist belt for a snug fit: Pull the free strap end to tighten the waist belt around your waist. The belt should sit on your hips, not your waist, and feel snug but not restrictive. You should be able to slide one finger between the belt and your body. Too loose and the carrier will sag; too tight and it will be uncomfortable. Check the fit after putting your baby in the carrier.
  6. Check the overall carrier fit: With your baby in the carrier, look in a mirror or ask someone to check that the waist belt is level and the baby's weight is on your hips. The carrier should not tilt forward or to one side. If the carrier tilts, re-adjust the waist belt tightness or re-position the extender.
