Quick answer
For your first Joe Ledbetter Monkey, choose the Lava edition if you want a classic colorway, Poker if you prefer a grumpy character with a money theme, or Snow if you like a rare exclusive with a winter vibe.
What makes each edition different
All three Joe Ledbetter Monkey figures share the same 8-inch vinyl sculpt and an edition size of 100, but their colorways and backstories set them apart. The Lava edition uses a warm, traditional palette that matches Joe Ledbetter's original painting "Good Morning Sunshine." The Poker edition features a grumpy monkey with a money-making attitude and hidden aces. The Snow edition, a Tomenosuke exclusive, captures the misery of cold winters with a frosty look.
Because the figures are from 2014, availability varies. The Lava and Snow editions are listed at a catalog comparison price of USD 120.00, while Poker is also at that reference price. Current discounted prices are USD 90.00 for Lava, USD 87.60 for Snow, and USD 75.60 for Poker. These are limited runs, so condition and original packaging matter more than the original retail price.
Trade-offs to consider
The Poker edition is the most affordable option at USD 75.60, but its grumpy expression and money theme may not appeal to every collector. The Lava edition costs more (USD 90.00) but offers the most recognizable colorway from Joe Ledbetter's original art. The Snow edition sits in between at USD 87.60 and is harder to find because it was a store exclusive.
None of the editions include a COA or display stand in the catalog facts, so verify these details with the seller if they matter to you. The vinyl material is durable, but the painted details on each colorway may show wear differently over time.
How to choose your first Joe Ledbetter Monkey
- Start with the colorway that speaks to you: If you want a warm, classic look, pick Lava. If you like a grumpy, money-themed character, pick Poker. If you prefer a rare winter exclusive, pick Snow.
- Check the price and your budget: Poker is USD 75.60, Snow is USD 87.60, Lava is USD 90.00. All are discounted from the USD 120.00 reference price. Choose Poker if you want to save money for other figures. The price difference is small, so prioritize the colorway you love most.
- Verify condition and completeness: Since these are 2014 releases, ask the seller about original packaging, paint condition, and any missing accessories. The catalog does not mention a COA or stand. A mint-condition figure with original packaging holds its value better.
