Quick Answer
If you want a massive, tranquil surface for keyboard, mouse, and more, choose the Stars & Moon Nightscape XXL. If you prefer a slightly smaller, katana-themed pad with style options, the Japanese Katana XL is your pick.
Size and Coverage: XL vs XXL
The Japanese Katana XL fits a full keyboard and mouse comfortably, making it a solid choice for most desks. The Stars & Moon Nightscape is XXL, so it covers even more surface area—ideal if you have extra peripherals or want a more immersive desk mat.
If your desk is compact, the XL might be a better fit. If you have a large desk and want maximum coverage, the XXL is the way to go.
Design and Aesthetic: Katana vs Nightscape
The Japanese Katana features traditional katana-inspired artwork, giving it a bold, warrior-like look. The Stars & Moon Nightscape offers a moonlit Japanese temple and night sky, bringing a tranquil, serene vibe to your workspace.
Your choice here is about personality: do you want a dynamic, sharp aesthetic or a calm, dreamy one?
Trade-Offs to Consider
- Size vs. Style Options: The Katana XL offers multiple katana style options but is smaller. The Nightscape XXL is larger but only comes in one size (XXL). Decide whether customization or maximum coverage matters more.
- Aesthetic vs. Function: If you want a bold, katana-themed desk, choose the Katana. If you prefer a calm, nightscape vibe that also covers more desk, pick the Nightscape. Match the pad's mood to your workspace atmosphere.
- Price vs. Surface Area: The Nightscape XXL is slightly cheaper than the Katana XL, offering more surface per dollar. If budget and desk space are priorities, the Nightscape gives more value. Consider cost per square inch when comparing.
