Quick Answer
To unlock all characters in LEGO Marvel Super Heroes, progress through the story, collect gold bricks, and use cheat codes for instant access to many heroes and villains.
Why Some Characters Are Locked
In LEGO Marvel Super Heroes, characters are locked to encourage exploration and replay. Story missions unlock a core set, but many heroes and villains require side quests or free play.
A few characters, like Spider-Man, are available early, but others need specific gold brick totals or cheat codes. Understanding these requirements saves time and frustration.
Trade-Offs: Cheat Codes vs. Earned Unlocks
Cheat codes give you instant access to powerful characters, but they can bypass the game's progression and reduce the reward of earning unlocks. If you want the full experience, focus on story and side missions first.
Using cheat codes does not disable achievements or trophies, but some players prefer to unlock characters naturally. The choice depends on whether you value convenience or completion.
Step-by-Step Unlock Guide
- Complete Story Missions: Finish all 15 story levels to unlock the main characters, including Iron Man, Captain America, and Wolverine. Replay levels in free play to access character-specific puzzles. Check the mission select screen to see which characters you've unlocked per level.
- Collect Gold Bricks: Gold bricks are earned by completing levels, side missions, and challenges. Reach specific totals (e.g., 10, 25, 50) to unlock bonus characters like Stan Lee and other cameos. Use the in-game map to track remaining gold bricks in each hub area.
- Use Cheat Codes: Enter cheat codes at the in-game 'Enter Code' menu (pause screen) to instantly unlock characters like Deadpool, Howard the Duck, or Galactus. Codes are case-sensitive and can be found online or in the game's manual. Save your game before entering codes; some codes may overwrite existing unlocks.
