Quick answer
The LensCoat GroundPod and Case bundle gives you a lightweight, packable ground support for telephoto lenses. Setup takes under five minutes once you know the clip-and-lock sequence.
Why choose the bundle over buying separately
The LensCoat GroundPod and Case bundle saves you $20 compared to buying the 10" GroundPod and its case individually. The case is purpose-shaped for the GroundPod, so it fits snugly without extra bulk—useful when you need to clip it to your pack and hike between blinds.
What the GroundPod is designed for
The GroundPod is made from a lightweight advanced polymer formulated for outdoor use. It is not a tripod replacement—it is a low-profile support that lets you shoot from ground level without laying your lens directly on dirt or snow. The clip-on design means you can attach it to any pack strap and carry it hands-free.
Setup steps
- Unpack and inspect: Remove the GroundPod and case from the bundle packaging. Check that the polymer body has no cracks or burrs and that the clip mechanism moves freely. A stiff clip may loosen after a few uses; do not force it if it feels stuck.
- Attach the GroundPod to your lens foot: Align the GroundPod’s mounting slot with the Arca-Swiss dovetail on your lens foot or tripod collar. Slide it forward until the locking lever clicks into place. Tighten the lever by hand—do not use tools. If the lever does not click, the dovetail may be too thick or too thin. The GroundPod works with standard Arca-Swiss plates; non-standard plates may not lock securely.
- Position the GroundPod on the ground: Place the assembly on a flat, stable surface. The GroundPod’s wide base distributes weight evenly. For uneven terrain, tilt the lens slightly and let the pod find its own footing—do not force it level. On loose soil or gravel, press the pod down gently to seat it. On hard surfaces, the polymer base will not scratch stone or concrete.
- Store the GroundPod in its case: Detach the GroundPod from the lens. Slide it into the case with the clip facing upward. Zip the case closed and clip it to your pack strap or belt loop using the built-in clip. Make sure the clip is fully engaged before hiking. A half-clipped case can fall off when you bend or crouch.
- Field use checklist: Before each outing, verify the clip mechanism is clean of grit and the locking lever operates smoothly. Carry the bundle in the case when not in use to avoid losing the pod. Sand and mud can jam the clip. Rinse with fresh water and let it dry completely before storage.
