Quick Answer
Both the Sunspell and Warlock Deluxe Liquid Core Chonk D20s are 40mm oversized dice with a liquid core that creates a shifting visual effect. The choice comes down to color preference and how the liquid core movement complements your tabletop style.
Why the Liquid Core Changes the Feel
A standard chonk d20 is solid resin throughout, so its weight is uniform and the visual is static. A liquid core chonk d20 contains a fluid-filled chamber that shifts as you roll, creating a dynamic light show inside the die. This does not affect the roll fairness—the dice are still balanced for casual play—but it does change the tactile experience: you can feel the liquid move slightly in your hand, adding a sensory element that a solid die lacks.
Because the liquid core is sealed inside the resin, the die remains fully functional for tabletop use. The trade-off is that the internal movement can be distracting if you prefer a clean, solid feel. Both models are handmade and quality-inspected for visual perfection.
Trade-Offs at a Glance
- Visual Impact: The liquid core creates a moving light show that solid dice cannot match. The Sunspell offers a warm sunrise effect; the Warlock Deluxe provides a dark holographic shimmer.
- Tactile Sensation: You can feel the liquid shift inside the die as you roll, adding a sensory element. Some players love this; others find it distracting compared to a solid die. If you prefer a completely solid feel, a standard chonk d20 may suit you better.
- Play Suitability: Both dice are quality-inspected and suitable for casual play. The liquid core does not affect fairness, but the oversized 40mm size is best for display or special rolls rather than everyday use.
