Quick Answer
The Mimikyu Munch Exhibition promo (SM-P 289) graded PSA10 is a rare Japanese exclusive with a catalog price of $13,700.22. It is not a mass-printed card, and its value comes from genuine scarcity and the iconic Munch artwork collaboration.
Myth: This card is just another promo with no real history
Some collectors assume all Japanese promos are abundant. The Mimikyu Munch Exhibition card is part of a special collaboration with the Munch art exhibition, making it a unique crossover between Pokémon and fine art. Its SM-P 289 designation confirms it was a limited-distribution promotional item, not a standard set release.
Myth: A PSA10 grade means the card is perfect and worth top dollar always
While a PSA10 grade indicates a gem mint condition, value also depends on demand and rarity. This card's catalog price of $13,700.22 (compared to $22,459.37) shows that even in PSA10, it trades at a significant discount to its comparison price, reflecting market nuances. The grade ensures authenticity and condition but does not guarantee a fixed price.
Myth: All Japanese exclusive promos are equally rare
Rarity varies widely among Japanese promos. The Mimikyu Munch Exhibition card was distributed only during a specific event, making it far scarcer than typical monthly promo cards. Its PSA10 population is limited, and the unique artwork adds collector appeal beyond standard promos.
