Quick answer
The Monkey Snow edition by Joe Ledbetter is a rare, exclusive art toy limited to 100 pieces, making it a standout for collectors who value scarcity and artist collaboration.
Why the Snow Monkey stands out
The Snow Monkey edition is one of the more unusual pieces in Joe Ledbetter's collection. Its design captures a grumpy monkey enduring a long, cold winter, a theme that resonates with anyone tired of the cold. The limited run of 100 pieces ensures that each figure is a rare find.
Unlike standard releases, this piece was a Tomenosuke exclusive, meaning it was only available through a specific retailer. This adds another layer of exclusivity and collector interest.
Trade-offs to consider
Because the edition is so small, finding one in mint condition can be challenging. The vinyl material is durable but can show wear if not displayed carefully. Also, the 8-inch height means it may not fit in smaller display cases without adjustment.
The price reflects its rarity. While the catalog comparison price is USD 120.00, the actual cost is USD 87.60, which is reasonable for a limited artist collaboration. However, resale prices can vary significantly.
How to decide if it's right for you
- Check the edition number: Each figure is part of a run of 100. Verify the edition number on the packaging or base to ensure authenticity.
- Inspect for condition: Look for any paint chips or cracks in the vinyl. Since it's an older release (2014), wear may be present. Request detailed photos if buying secondhand.
- Consider display space: At 8 inches tall, ensure your shelf or case can accommodate the figure without overcrowding.
