Quick answer
A ProMaster cap leash keeps your lens cap attached to your lens so it never hits the ground. Choose between the sticky pad for caps without a hole or the mounting-hole method for compatible caps.
Why a cap leash beats a pocket
Stuffing a lens cap in your pocket or bag is the fastest way to lose it or scratch it. A leash tethers the cap to the lens barrel, so it stays within reach and stays clean. The ProMaster design uses two attachment methods, making it work with nearly any cap.
How to install a ProMaster cap leash
- 1. Choose your attachment method: Check your lens cap. If it has a small threaded hole in the center, use the screw-in method. If it has no hole, peel the backing off the adhesive pad and press it onto the cap’s center. Common mistake: pressing the sticky pad onto a textured or curved cap surface. It needs a flat, clean area to hold.
- 2. Attach the leash to the cap: For the screw-in method, remove the sticky pad, then screw the leash’s metal stud into the cap’s mounting hole. For the adhesive method, press the sticky pad firmly onto the cap and hold for 10 seconds. Checkpoint: after attaching, tug gently on the leash to confirm the pad or screw is secure before using it on your lens.
- 3. Loop the leash around the lens barrel: Slip the elastic loop over the lens barrel, positioning it between the focus ring and the lens mount. The loop should be snug but not so tight that it restricts zoom or focus movement. Common mistake: placing the loop over the lens hood or filter ring. It can slip off. Keep it on the main barrel.
- 4. Test the fit: Put the cap on the lens. Let the leash hang naturally. The cap should reach the lens without pulling the leash taut. If it’s too tight, move the loop closer to the camera body. If too loose, move it toward the front. Final check: rotate the zoom or focus ring. The leash should not catch or bind. If it does, reposition the loop.
