Quick Answer
The Retro Fighters Brawler64 NSO Gold Limited Edition is a Bluetooth wireless controller for N64 and Nintendo Switch, limited to 2,000 pieces. It's a solid choice for retro gamers who want a modern wireless option with a collectible twist.
What Makes the Gold Edition Special?
The Gold Limited Edition stands out because only 2,000 pieces were produced. This makes it a collector's item compared to the standard Brawler64 wireless controllers, which are more widely available. The gold finish is a visual differentiator, but the core functionality remains the same as the standard Brawler64 NSO model.
Compatibility with N64 and Switch
This controller is designed for both N64 and Nintendo Switch, giving you one controller for two systems. The Bluetooth connection works with the Switch natively, while N64 use requires the appropriate receiver (such as the BlueRetro receiver). Note that the current BlueRetro firmware has a known issue with this controller, but the upcoming 1.8.2 update resolves it.
Considerations Before Buying
If you're buying for N64 use, remember that you'll need a compatible receiver, and you should update your receiver's firmware to 1.8.2 or later for smooth pairing. Also, the limited edition status means it may be harder to find and possibly priced higher than the standard version. If you don't care about the gold color or collectibility, the standard Brawler64 might be more practical.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the Brawler64 NSO Gold Edition compatible with the Nintendo Switch?
Yes, it connects via Bluetooth to the Switch without additional adapters. Make sure your Switch is updated to the latest firmware for best compatibility.
Does it work with the N64 out of the box?
No, you need a compatible N64 receiver, such as a BlueRetro receiver, to use it with the original console. Check that your receiver's firmware is 1.8.2 or later to avoid pairing issues.
How many units of the Gold Edition were made?
Only 2,000 pieces were produced, making it a limited collector's item. If you want one, consider purchasing sooner rather than later due to limited availability.
