The RoofKit is designed exclusively for the Tentsile Trillium 3-Person Hammock. It provides overhead coverage from rain and sun but does not include the hammock itself. If you are using a different Tentsile model, this kit will not fit. The RoofKit is also available as a bundle with the Trillium, which simplifies purchasing if you need both.
Before starting, ensure you have the Trillium hammock set up and tensioned. The RoofKit adds weight and wind resistance, so a properly tensioned hammock is essential for stability.
RoofKit installation steps
- 1. Position the RoofKit over the Trillium: Lay the RoofKit fabric over the top of your tensioned Trillium hammock, centering it so the edges hang evenly on all sides. The coated side should face upward for rain protection. Common mistake: installing the fabric upside down, which reduces water shedding.
- 2. Attach the corner straps to the hammock loops: Each corner of the RoofKit has a strap with a clip. Clip each strap to the corresponding loop on the Trillium hammock's frame. Start with two opposite corners to keep the fabric from shifting. Check that all clips are fully closed and the strap is not twisted—twisted straps can loosen under load.
- 3. Tension the fabric evenly: Pull each strap to remove slack, working around the hammock. The fabric should be taut but not stretched to the point of distorting the hammock shape. Aim for a slight curve that sheds water. Over-tensioning can stress the hammock seams and reduce comfort; under-tensioning leaves puddles in the roof.
- 4. Adjust for wind and weather: If strong wind is expected, lower the RoofKit by attaching the straps to lower points on the hammock or adding extra guylines (not included). For heavy rain, ensure all edges overhang the hammock by at least 6 inches. The RoofKit is not a storm shelter—it reduces sun and rain exposure but does not replace a full tent in severe weather.
