S.H.Figuarts vs MAFEX: Which Spider-Man Figure Should You Choose?

Quick Answer

For most collectors, the S.H.Figuarts Spider-Man: Brand New Day figure offers the best balance of price and articulation at $39.99, making it a great entry point. If you prioritize a specific aesthetic or need the latest MAFEX release, wait for reviews and availability, but expect to pay more. Choose based on your budget and whether you value the classic S.H.Figuarts style or the distinct MAFEX interpretation.

Spider-Man figures are a staple of any 1/12 scale collection, and two names dominate the conversation: S.H.Figuarts and MAFEX. Both lines deliver highly articulated, screen-inspired takes on the wall-crawler, but they approach the character differently. This comparison focuses on what you can actually buy today, especially the recently released S.H.Figuarts Spider-Man: Brand New Day figure.

We'll break down price, articulation, accessories, and availability so you can decide which figure fits your display and budget. Remember, the best choice depends on your priorities—no single figure is perfect for everyone.

Price and Value: What You Pay vs What You Get

Price is often the deciding factor. The S.H.Figuarts Spider-Man: Brand New Day figure is currently available at TOYCO Collectibles for USD 39.99, down from a catalog comparison price of USD 79.99. That's a significant discount for a new release, making it an attractive option if you want a high-quality Spider-Man without breaking the bank.

MAFEX figures, like the popular MAFEX No. 248 Spider-Man, typically retail for more—often in the $80–$100 range. While MAFEX offers a different aesthetic and often includes more accessories, the higher price point can be a hurdle. If budget is your primary concern, the S.H.Figuarts figure delivers solid value at nearly half the cost.

• Check current prices at TOYCO for the S.H.Figuarts Brand New Day Spider-Man.
• MAFEX prices vary by release and availability; expect to pay a premium for the latest version.

Articulation and Posability: Which Figure Poses Better?

Both S.H.Figuarts and MAFEX are known for excellent articulation, but they have different strengths. S.H.Figuarts figures typically feature a streamlined design with a wide range of motion, ideal for dynamic web-swinging poses. The Brand New Day Spider-Man is designed with Tom Holland's portrayal in mind, so it should capture his agile, acrobatic style.

MAFEX figures often have more complex joints, which can allow for even more extreme poses, but they may be slightly bulkier. Some collectors find MAFEX joints looser or tighter depending on the figure. Without hands-on testing, it's hard to declare a winner, but both lines are capable of museum-quality displays. If you prioritize ease of posing out of the box, S.H.Figuarts is a safe bet.

• Look for reviews that show range of motion in the shoulders, hips, and knees.
• Consider whether you prefer a sleeker S.H.Figuarts silhouette or the more detailed MAFEX sculpt.

Accessories and Extras: What's in the Box?

Accessories can make or break a figure. The S.H.Figuarts Brand New Day Spider-Man likely includes multiple pairs of hands, web effects, and maybe an alternate head—standard for the line. MAFEX figures often pack in more accessories, such as interchangeable faces and extra web lines, but this varies by release.

For the Brand New Day figure, the focus is on the movie's suit, so expect a clean, modern look. If you need a figure with a ton of extras, check the specific MAFEX release's contents. However, if you prefer a more focused set that covers the essentials, S.H.Figuarts usually delivers.

• Check the official product page for a full list of included accessories.
• For the Brand New Day figure, look for web effects and alternate hands to maximize posing options.

Availability and Release Status

Availability is crucial. The S.H.Figuarts Spider-Man: Brand New Day figure is in stock now at TOYCO, so you can get it immediately. MAFEX figures, especially popular ones like No. 248, often sell out quickly or have long pre-order windows. If you want a Spider-Man figure today, the S.H.Figuarts is the practical choice.

For upcoming releases, TOYCO also offers pre-orders for figures like the One Piece Tony Tony Chopper and Jujutsu Kaisen Suguru Geto, but those are different characters. If you're set on a specific MAFEX Spider-Man, be prepared to wait or pay aftermarket prices. For immediate gratification, the S.H.Figuarts Brand New Day Spider-Man is ready to ship.

• Check stock status on TOYCO's product page for the S.H.Figuarts Spider-Man.
• If you're interested in other lines, explore pre-orders for future releases.

The Trade-Off: S.H.Figuarts vs MAFEX

• Price: S.H.Figuarts Brand New Day Spider-Man is $39.99, while MAFEX figures typically cost $80+. You save money with S.H.Figuarts, but you might miss out on MAFEX's extra accessories or unique sculpt. If budget is tight, S.H.Figuarts wins outright.
• Articulation: Both lines offer excellent articulation, but S.H.Figuarts tends to have a sleeker design that's easier to pose for dynamic action. MAFEX can offer more extreme poses but may require more fiddling. For out-of-the-box posing, S.H.Figuarts is more user-friendly.
• Availability: The S.H.Figuarts Brand New Day Spider-Man is in stock now. MAFEX figures often sell out quickly or have long pre-order windows, so you might wait months. If you want a Spider-Man today, S.H.Figuarts is the practical choice.
