What the Barter & Forage Tiles Do
The Barter tile lets you exchange one resource for another at a 1:1 rate during your turn. The Forage tile gives you one free resource of your choice from the supply, once per round. Both tiles are optional and sit alongside the standard action tiles from the base game.
When to Use Each Tile
The Barter tile shines when you have an excess of one resource but need another to complete a building or feed your clan. The Forage tile is most helpful early in the game when resources are scarce, or when you need a specific resource to trigger a chain reaction. A trade-off: neither tile uses a worker, so you can still take a separate action in the same turn.
How to Use the Barter & Forage Tiles
- Set Up the Tiles: Place the Barter and Forage tiles face-up near the main action board at the start of the game. They are available to all players from the first round. Do not shuffle them into the base action tile deck; they remain separate.
- Take the Barter Action: On your turn, instead of using a worker, declare you are using the Barter tile. Choose one resource from your personal supply and return it to the general supply, then take one other resource of your choice from the general supply. You must have at least one resource to trade. You cannot use Barter if your personal supply is empty.
- Take the Forage Action: On your turn, instead of using a worker, declare you are using the Forage tile. Take one resource of your choice from the general supply and add it to your personal supply. You can only use Forage once per round. Mark it with a token or remember to reset it at the start of the next round.
- Combine with Other Actions: You can use a Barter or Forage action in addition to a regular worker action on the same turn. The tile action does not cost a worker, so you still have all your workers available for other actions. Common mistake: players often think they must choose between a tile action and a worker action. You can do both.
