Quick answer
Add the three promo cards—Woodcutter, Overseer, and Deacon—to your Viscounts of the West Kingdom starting deck as extra starting cards, following the setup steps below.
What these promo cards do
The Viscounts Dice Tower 2022 Promos include three unique cards: the Woodcutter, Overseer, and Deacon. Each card offers a one-time benefit when played, adding a slight strategic twist to your early game without overwhelming the core mechanics.
Because they are promotional items, they are not required for gameplay. They simply give experienced players a small new option to explore.
When to use them
These promos work best for players who already enjoy Viscounts of the West Kingdom and want a fresh start. They are not balanced for competitive tournament play, so treat them as a fun variant rather than a standard rule.
If you are teaching the game to new players, consider skipping the promos to keep the learning curve simpler.
How to add the promos to your game
- 1. Prepare the promo cards: Take the three promo cards—Woodcutter, Overseer, and Deacon—and shuffle them together. Do not look at their faces yet. Common mistake: accidentally mixing them with the main deck. Keep them separate until setup.
- 2. Add them to the starting deck: During game setup, after each player has their starting deck of 10 cards, deal one random promo card to each player. Each player adds that card to their starting deck without looking at it. If you have fewer than 3 players, return leftover promos to the box. Do not leave them in the supply.
- 3. Play as normal: Shuffle your starting deck (now 11 cards) and begin the game. When you draw the promo card, play it like any other card in your hand. Its effect triggers immediately and then it is discarded. Remember: each promo card is a one-time use. After it is discarded, it is gone for the rest of the game.
