Quick answer
If you want a quicker, simpler standalone game focused on Operation Valkyrie, choose Valkyrie. If you already own Black Orchestra and want more conspirators and modular complexity, choose the Resistance Expansion.
Standalone vs expansion: key difference
Valkyrie is a complete, standalone game with streamlined rules and a tighter focus on assassinating Hitler with explosives. The Resistance Expansion is an add-on for the original Black Orchestra game, adding 6 new Conspirators and three modular rule sets that increase complexity and replayability.
Your choice depends on whether you own the base Black Orchestra game and whether you prefer a faster play session or a deeper, more varied experience.
Cost and value trade-off
Both products are priced similarly: Valkyrie at $27.90 (compared to $45.00) and the Resistance Expansion at $28.80 (compared to $45.00). However, Valkyrie gives you a full game out of the box, while the expansion requires the base Black Orchestra game to play. If you don't own the base game, the expansion alone won't work.
Decision rules
- Buy Valkyrie if: You don't own the original Black Orchestra game and want a standalone game with simpler, quicker gameplay and a focused assassination mission.
- Buy the Resistance Expansion if: You already own Black Orchestra and want more conspirators, modular rules, and increased replayability without buying a new base game. Check that you have the base game before purchasing.
- Buy both if: You want a standalone experience now and plan to expand your Black Orchestra collection later. Valkyrie can be played on its own, and the expansion adds depth when you're ready.
