Quick answer
Clean and store weekly contact lenses daily with a fresh multipurpose solution, never water or saliva, and replace the lens case every three months to prevent infections.
Why weekly lenses need daily care
Weekly lenses like Acuvue 2 are designed for 1-2 week replacement, but they still collect protein deposits and bacteria each day. Skipping a nightly clean can lead to discomfort and increase the risk of eye infections, even if you replace the lenses on schedule.
Choosing the right solution
Not all contact lens solutions work the same. A multipurpose solution that matches your lens material (hydrogel for Acuvue 2) helps remove deposits without damaging the lens. Avoid hydrogen peroxide systems unless you are willing to follow the neutralization step exactly.
Daily lens care steps
- Wash and dry your hands: Use a mild, non-cosmetic soap and rinse thoroughly. Dry with a lint-free towel. Oils or residues from lotions can transfer to the lens and cause blurry vision or irritation.
- Rub and rinse each lens: Place the lens in your palm, add a few drops of fresh multipurpose solution, and rub gently for about 20 seconds on each side. Then rinse with a stream of solution. This step physically removes deposits that soaking alone cannot. Never use tap water or saliva—they contain microorganisms that can cause serious eye infections.
- Store in a clean case with fresh solution: Fill each lens well with fresh solution, place the lens in, and close the lid tightly. Never top off old solution—its cleaning agents lose effectiveness after one use. Replace your lens case every three months to avoid biofilm buildup. Wash the case with warm solution and air dry it each morning.
Product facts
-
Acuvue 2 - 6 Pack: Acuvue 2 is a 1-2 week soft disposable hydrogel lens made of 42% polymer (Etafilcon A) and packaged in buffered saline solution. The hydrogel material absorbs water and deposits easily, so daily rubbing and rinsing with a compatible solution are essential to keep the lens comfortable through its 1-2 week wear period.
