Quick answer

A gaming mat is a cushioned neoprene surface that protects your table, keeps dice and miniatures from sliding, and sets the scene for your game. FLG Mats offer high-resolution artwork and durable construction that make them a practical upgrade for any tabletop session.

Why neoprene matters for tabletop games

Neoprene is the same material used in wetsuits and mouse pads—it's flexible, durable, and has a bit of grip. For gaming, that means your map won't slide around, dice won't bounce off the table, and miniatures stay where you put them. The cushioned surface also absorbs sound, so rolling dice feels less jarring and more controlled.

What to look for in a gaming mat

Resolution and ink quality matter more than you'd think. A blurry map or faded terrain breaks immersion. FLG Mats use high-resolution printing with quality inks so the artwork stays crisp and clear even after repeated use. Size options let you match the mat to your table or game system—check the available sizes before you buy.

Frequently asked questions about gaming mats

Will a gaming mat fit my table?

FLG Mats come in multiple size options. Measure your table's play area before ordering and choose a size that leaves a small border around the edges. Most mats lie flat without curling, but you can weigh down corners with rulebooks or dice trays if needed.

How do I clean a neoprene mat?

Spot clean with a damp cloth and mild soap. Avoid soaking the mat or putting it in a washing machine. Neoprene dries slowly, so blot excess moisture and let it air dry flat. For spills during a session, wipe quickly to prevent staining.

Can I use a gaming mat for RPGs and wargames?

Yes. The same neoprene surface works for both. In wargames, it keeps terrain tiles and miniatures stable. In RPGs, it provides a gridless map or backdrop that you can draw on with dry-erase markers. Just test the marker on a corner first to make sure it wipes off cleanly.
