Quick answer

A leaking cloth pad usually means the absorbency isn't matched to your flow. Adding an extra insert or switching to a larger holder can stop the leak without buying a whole new pad.

Why leaks happen with holder-and-insert systems

GladRags pads use a two-part system: a cotton flannel holder with wings and a snap, plus a separate absorbent insert. This design lets you adjust absorbency by adding or removing inserts, but it also means leaks can come from either component.

If the holder is too small for your flow, or if the insert is saturated and can't hold more, liquid will escape at the edges or through the fabric. The fix is usually straightforward—no need to replace the entire pad.

Diagnose and fix your leak

  • Symptom: Leak at the sides or back: Check if the insert is fully inside the holder's pocket. If it's bunched or shifted, reposition it flat. Also confirm the holder's wings are snug around your underwear. If repositioning doesn't help, the holder may be too small for your flow.
  • Symptom: Pad feels wet through the bottom: The insert is likely saturated. Remove the used insert and add a fresh one. For heavier days, use two inserts (the holder can hold up to three). If you're already using three inserts and still leaking, try a longer holder (e.g., Night Pad) for more coverage.
  • Symptom: Leak happens within 1–2 hours: Your flow may be heavier than the current absorbency. Switch to a larger holder (Day Pad Plus or Night Pad) or add an extra insert. The Just the Insert product lets you buy additional inserts separately. If you've tried the largest holder and max inserts, consider changing pads more frequently—every 2–3 hours on heavy days.

Products that can help

  • Just the Holder - Color Day Holder: Use with up to 3 GladRags Inserts, or wear alone as an ultra-thin liner. This means you can boost absorbency by adding inserts rather than buying a new pad—ideal for fixing leaks on medium or heavy days.

  • Just the Insert - Color Insert: Insert does not have wings. Need more absorbency? Try adding an additional insert to your GladRags Day Pad, Day Pad Plus, or Night Pad for a boost in leak protection. If your current setup leaks, an extra insert can increase capacity without changing the holder. It's a low-cost fix.
