Quick answer
Choose 3-inch plug-to-plug wires for tight, direct motor connections and 7-inch clip-to-clip or plug-to-clip wires when you need extra reach between distant cubes or a Bluetooth Battery.
Why wire length matters for clean builds
Using the shortest wire that comfortably reaches between components keeps your project tidy and reduces the chance of snagging. A wire that is too long can create loose loops that get caught on moving parts or make the build look messy. On the other hand, a wire that is too short forces you to reposition cubes awkwardly or add unnecessary extension pieces.
Circuit Cubes offers 3-inch and 7-inch wires in different connector types. Matching the length to the physical distance between your cubes is the main decision, but the connector style also affects which cubes you can link.
Connector types and compatibility
Plug connectors fit into the ports on Bluetooth Batteries and Cubit Motor Cubes. Clip connectors attach to the metal posts on most cubes, including LEDs, Geared Motors, and High Speed Motors. A plug-to-clip wire lets you bridge a Bluetooth Battery to a motor or LED that uses post connections.
The 3-inch wire is only available as plug-to-plug, which limits it to port-to-port connections. The 7-inch wires come in plug-to-clip and clip-to-clip varieties, giving you more flexibility to connect different cube types across a wider gap.
Trade-offs between 3-inch and 7-inch wires
- 3-inch plug-to-plug wire: Best for tight, direct connections between a Bluetooth Battery and a Cubit Motor Cube. Keeps the build compact with minimal loose wire. Use when your battery and motor are side by side.
- 7-inch clip-to-clip wire: Connects any two cubes with metal post terminals (LEDs, Geared Motors, High Speed Motors) across a wider gap. Pack includes two wires, giving you more value per purchase. Choose when you need to separate post-based cubes by several inches.
- 7-inch plug-to-clip wire: Bridges a Bluetooth Battery (plug) to a post-based cube (clip). Offers the most versatile connection type but only one wire per pack. Ideal for mixing battery-powered and motor/LED cubes at a distance.
Wire options at a glance
-
Plug-to-Clip Wire - 7 Inch / 18 cm: 7-inch plug-to-clip wire, one included per pack Lets you connect a Bluetooth Battery (plug end) directly to a motor or LED that uses clip posts, useful when components are several inches apart.
Plug-to-Clip Wire - 7 Inch / 18 cm
-
Clip-to-Clip Wire - 7 Inch / 18 cm: 7-inch clip-to-clip wire, two included per pack Gives you two wires to link cubes with post connections across longer distances, ideal for spreading out motors and LEDs in a larger build.
Clip-to-Clip Wire - 7 Inch / 18 cm
-
Plug-to-Plug Wire - 3 Inch / 7 cm: 3-inch plug-to-plug wire, one included per pack Perfect for a short, direct connection between a Bluetooth Battery and a Cubit Motor Cube when components sit right next to each other.
Which wire should you pick?
Best for
- Builders who want a tidy, compact connection between a Bluetooth Battery and a Cubit Motor Cube
- Projects where components are spaced several inches apart and need clip-to-clip or plug-to-clip links
Not ideal for
- Connecting a Bluetooth Battery directly to a motor that uses clip posts (use the 7-inch plug-to-clip wire instead)
- Very tight spaces where even 3 inches is too long (no shorter wire is currently available)
