Quick answer
For ZU tiles, choose dedicated ZU tile sleeves over standard card sleeves. They are designed to fit the tile dimensions, providing better protection and a smoother shuffle.
Why size matters for tile sleeves
Tile sleeves are not one-size-fits-all. Standard card sleeves are sized for cards, not the thicker, larger ZU tiles. Using the wrong sleeve can lead to poor fit, difficulty shuffling, and reduced protection.
Dedicated ZU tile sleeves are cut to match the tile's exact dimensions. This means a snug fit that stays in place during play, and a consistent feel when you shuffle and draw.
The trade-off: cost vs. protection
Dedicated tile sleeves often cost a bit more per sleeve than generic standard card sleeves. However, they protect your tiles from scratches and wear over repeated play, which can extend the life of your game.
Standard card sleeves may be cheaper upfront, but if they don't fit well, they can slide off or bunch up, leaving your tiles exposed. That can lead to damage that costs more to fix later.
How to choose: ZU tile sleeves vs. standard card sleeves
- Choose ZU tile sleeves if: You want a precise fit that stays on the tile during play, and you value long-term protection over slight cost savings. Invest in dedicated tile sleeves for the best fit and protection.
- Choose standard card sleeves if: You already have a large supply of standard sleeves and are willing to accept a looser fit that may require extra care. Test a single tile first to see if the sleeve stays in place and shuffles well.
- Check your tile size: Measure your ZU tiles before buying sleeves. If they are standard ZU tiles, dedicated sleeves are the safe choice; otherwise, look for sleeves that match your exact dimensions. Always confirm the sleeve size matches your tiles to avoid wasted purchases.
