Quick answer

Blind box figures can be worth collecting long-term, but not in the way you might think. The real value is in the collecting experience, community, and personal enjoyment — not guaranteed financial return.

The Myth: Blind Boxes Are a Waste of Money

A common criticism is that blind boxes are overpriced trinkets with no lasting value. But this overlooks the fact that many collectors buy for the joy of surprise, the thrill of completing a series, and the social connections formed through trading. The pleasure derived from unboxing and displaying figures like the Nommi Fantasy World Series Blind Box is a legitimate form of value — just not one measured in dollars.

The Reality: Value Is Personal, Not Just Financial

While some limited-edition figures do appreciate in resale markets, most blind boxes are designed as affordable collectibles, not investments. The Mini PVC Blind Bag, for example, is priced at just $3.15 — an accessible entry point for new collectors. Its value lies in the fun of the surprise and the ability to share with friends, not in future profit. Collecting for long-term enjoyment rather than speculation is a perfectly valid and rewarding approach.

Verdicts on Common Blind Box Value Claims

  • Claim: Blind boxes always lose value: Verdict: Mostly true, but that's not the point. Most blind boxes are priced for fun, not investment. Treat them like a movie ticket or a coffee — you pay for the experience, not a future payout. Collect for joy, not profit.
  • Claim: You can make money reselling blind boxes: Verdict: Rarely. While some rare figures sell for high prices, the vast majority do not. Reselling is a hobby, not a reliable income stream. Don't buy blind boxes expecting to flip them for a profit. Resell only if you enjoy the process.
  • Claim: Blind box collecting is a waste of space: Verdict: Only if you don't enjoy displaying them. Many collectors curate small, intentional displays that bring daily joy. The Maltese PupSnap Hippers Serie Blind Bag, for instance, is a charming animal figure that fits neatly on a desk or shelf. Display what you love, rotate as you like.
