Quick Answer

No, the Lift Off! Expanded Deluxe Edition is an upgrade kit, not a standalone game. You still need the original Lift Off! Get me off this Planet! to play.

What the Upgrade Kit Adds

The Expanded Deluxe Edition is designed for players who already own the original Lift Off! Get me off this Planet! It adds components and enhancements that deepen the experience without replacing the core game.

Because it's an upgrade kit, it assumes you have the base game's board, cards, and other essentials. Without them, you won't have everything needed to set up a full game.

Why It's Not Standalone

Upgrade kits typically include deluxe components, extra cards, or alternate art, but they don't replicate the base game's core materials. The catalog lists this as an upgrade kit, and the description references owning the original game.

If you're new to Lift Off!, you'd need to purchase the base game separately to use this kit. The kit enhances, not replaces, the original experience.

Diagnosing Your Situation

  • Symptom: You're considering the Expanded Deluxe Edition but don't own the original Lift Off! Get me off this Planet!
  • Likely Cause: The product is an upgrade kit, not a standalone game, so it's missing core components from the base game.
  • Corrective Action: Purchase the original Lift Off! Get me off this Planet! base game first, then add the Expanded Deluxe Edition to enhance your play. Check that the base game is in stock before ordering the kit.
  • When to Stop or Choose Another Option: If you don't want to buy both games, look for a standalone title instead. The Expanded Deluxe Edition won't work on its own.
