Quick answer
Attach the FCPC Steel Ring to the shoulder webbing of your FCPC V5 plate carrier to create a non-quick-detach mounting point for slings or accessories. You'll need the ring and a small flat tool to guide the webbing.
Why use a steel ring instead of a QD mount?
A fixed steel ring is lighter, more secure, and eliminates the risk of accidental release that can happen with push-button QD sling mounts. It's ideal for users who want a permanent, rattle-free attachment point on their support-side shoulder.
How to attach the FCPC Steel Ring
- Locate the shoulder webbing: Find the 1-inch webbing loop on the shoulder strap of your FCPC V5 where the quick-detach buckle normally sits. This is the attachment point for the steel ring. Make sure you're working on the shoulder strap you want to make non-QD.
- Feed the webbing through the ring: Thread the end of the shoulder webbing through the steel ring. Push the ring all the way up to the base of the webbing loop so it sits flush against the strap. Don't force the ring through a tight weave—if it's stuck, use a flat tool like a plastic card to gently open the webbing channel.
- Secure the ring in place: Fold the webbing back over the ring and thread it through the buckle or loop on the strap. Pull tight so the ring is held firmly between the webbing layers. Common mistake: leaving slack in the webbing. The ring should not slide freely—if it does, re-thread and pull tighter.
- Test the attachment: Tug the ring in all directions to confirm it's locked in place. Attach your sling and check that the ring doesn't shift under load. If the ring rotates or moves, the webbing is too loose. Re-do step 3 with more tension.
