Quick answer
Measure your wall width, then pick a print that fills 60-75% of that space for a balanced look. For most game rooms, that means an 18x24 inch print for a 3-foot wall or a 24x36 inch print for a 4-foot wall.
Why size matters more than the image
A great piece of art can feel lost on a big wall or cramped in a small nook. The right size makes the room feel intentional and lets the artwork breathe. With video game art prints, the dimensions also affect how much detail you can see from across the room.
Trade-off: big prints vs. small prints
Large prints (24x36 inches or bigger) create a bold focal point and show off intricate details, but they need at least 4 feet of clear wall space and can overwhelm a small room. Small prints (11x14 inches or under) fit tight spots like above a desk or between shelves, but they can look like an afterthought on a large empty wall.
Decision rules for picking your print size
- Measure your wall width: Use a tape measure to find the width of the empty wall space where the print will hang. Do not include baseboards or trim. Write down the width in inches.
- Apply the 60-75% rule: Multiply your wall width by 0.6 and 0.75. The print width should fall between those two numbers. For example, a 36-inch wall calls for a print 21.6 to 27 inches wide. An 18x24 print fits a 30- to 40-inch wall.
- Check viewing distance: If you will stand more than 6 feet away, choose the larger size in your range. For close-up viewing (under 4 feet), smaller prints keep the composition easy to take in. Match size to the typical distance from the wall.
