Quick answer
A mesh tent pocket clips or sticks to your shelter wall, giving you a secure spot for small items you need at night. Install it near your head for easy access without leaving your sleeping bag.
Why add a mesh pocket to your shelter?
Inside a lightweight tent, floor space is tight and pockets are rare. A mesh tent pocket solves that by creating dedicated storage for items you want close by—phone, glasses, headlamp, earplugs. It keeps them off the ground, dry, and easy to find in the dark.
The Mesh Tent Pocket from Zpacks attaches to seam tape on compatible shelters like the Triplex. It adds less than an ounce and can be repositioned as needed.
How to install and use your mesh tent pocket
- Choose the location: Pick a spot on the inner tent wall near your head, where you can reach it from your sleeping pad. Avoid areas where the wall curves sharply or where the pocket would press against the fly. A common mistake is placing it too low—you'll have to sit up to reach it.
- Clean and dry the surface: Wipe the tent wall with a dry cloth to remove dust or condensation. The adhesive seam tape needs a clean, dry surface to stick firmly. If the tape doesn't hold, the surface may be damp or dirty. Try a different spot.
- Peel and press: Peel the backing off the seam tape strip on the pocket's top edge. Press it firmly against the tent wall for 10–15 seconds. Smooth out any air bubbles. Once stuck, it's secure but removable. Don't pull the mesh itself—grip the tape strip to peel it off.
- Load items strategically: Put your heaviest or most-used items (phone, headlamp) in the center so the pocket hangs evenly. Lighter items like glasses or earplugs can go in the sides. Overstuffing the pocket can pull the tape loose. Keep it less than half full for reliable adhesion.
- Test reach and adjust: Lie down in your sleeping position and reach for the pocket. If it's awkward to grab, peel it off and re-stick it a few inches closer or higher. Adhesive is strongest on the first stick, so plan your placement before pressing hard.
