Quick answer

To play Dragon Eclipse: Mystling Academy – Peare vs Arboro, each player selects a Mystling, sets up their arena board and cards, then takes turns playing action cards to attack, defend, or use special abilities until one Mystling is defeated.

What’s in the box

This standalone dueling game includes two pre-built Mystling decks (Peare and Arboro), arena boards, miniatures, and a rulebook. No additional products are needed to play, making it a perfect entry point into the Dragon Eclipse universe.

Game length and difficulty

Games typically last 15–30 minutes. The rules are straightforward, but the tactical card play offers depth for repeated sessions. New players can learn the basics in one game.

How to set up and play Peare vs Arboro

  1. 1. Choose your Mystling and set up the arena: Each player picks either Peare or Arboro and takes the corresponding deck, miniature, and arena board. Place the miniature on the starting zone of your board. Shuffle your deck and draw a hand of 5 cards. Make sure both players agree on which side of the arena is theirs before starting.
  2. 2. Understand the turn structure: Each turn has two phases: Action Phase and End Phase. In the Action Phase, play one card from your hand face-up, resolve its effect (attack, defend, or special), then discard it. In the End Phase, draw back up to 5 cards. Play passes to the opponent. You cannot play more than one card per turn unless a card says otherwise.
  3. 3. Attack and defend: Attack cards deal damage equal to their printed value. Defend cards reduce incoming damage by their value for that turn. Some cards have bonus effects that trigger only if you meet a condition (e.g., being at a certain range). Check the range icon on attack cards—if your miniature is too far, the attack may miss or have reduced effect.
  4. 4. Use special abilities wisely: Each Mystling has a unique special ability card. Playing it costs no action but can only be used once per game. These abilities can heal, boost damage, or reposition your miniature. Save your special ability for a critical moment—using it early might leave you without a comeback option.
  5. 5. Win the duel: The game ends when one Mystling’s health is reduced to 0. The player whose Mystling still stands wins. If both are defeated simultaneously, the player who dealt the final blow wins. Track health on the arena board using the included dials—forgetting to adjust health can lead to confusion.
