Quick answer

Warp 99 is a fast-paced card game where players race to complete their ship and escape a collapsing space station. Set up takes under two minutes, and the first round starts immediately after dealing cards.

What You Need to Play

Warp 99 requires the base game box, which includes cards and tokens. You also need a flat surface large enough for each player to have a play area. A play mat can help keep cards organized and protect them from wear.

The One Night Ultimate Alien Play Mat (14"x24") provides a quiet, soft surface for card placement. For larger groups, the 30" x 30" Play Mat gives ample space for multiple players to spread out their components.

Setup Overview

Shuffle the deck and deal each player a starting hand according to the rulebook. Place the remaining deck in the center. Each player takes their ship board and places it in front of them. Distribute any starting tokens as indicated.

A common mistake is forgetting to separate the special action cards from the main deck before dealing. Check the rulebook for which cards are removed during setup.

Play Warp 99 in 10 Minutes

  1. 1. Set Up the Play Area: Unfold your play mat on a flat table. Place the deck in the center and give each player their ship board and starting hand. Keep tokens within reach. Check that you have removed any setup-specific cards before dealing.
  2. 2. Understand Your Turn: On your turn, draw one card from the deck, then play one card from your hand. Cards let you repair your ship, attack opponents, or draw extra cards. Follow the card text exactly. You cannot hold more than your hand limit at the end of your turn. Discard down if needed.
  3. 3. Win Condition: The first player to fully repair their ship and have no damage tokens remaining wins immediately. Some cards can delay opponents, so watch for counterplay. Don't neglect defense. A single well-timed attack can set you back several turns.
