Quick answer

The Articulating Arm PRO lets you securely mount filters, monitors, and other accessories to your camera rig using a double-ball joint arm that locks into any position.

Why the Articulating Arm PRO Matters for Filters

Unlike fixed filter holders, the Articulating Arm PRO gives you precise control over filter placement. You can position a handheld filter exactly where you need it in front of the lens, then lock the arm in place to keep it steady during a take. This is especially useful when you want to use a filter without a thread-on adapter or when switching between different filter effects quickly.

Step-by-step setup

  1. 1. Attach the base mount: Screw the provided 1/4-20 or 3/8-16 thread adapter onto your camera cage, rig, or tripod plate. Tighten it firmly with a coin or hex key so the arm has a solid foundation. A loose base mount will let the arm sag under the weight of a filter.
  2. 2. Position the first ball joint: Loosen the locking knob on the arm, then bend the first ball joint to point the arm toward your lens. Keep the arm roughly parallel to the lens axis so the filter sits square in front of the glass. If the arm angles too far off-axis, the filter may vignette the corners of the frame.
  3. 3. Attach your filter holder or clamp: Use the second ball joint to connect a filter holder, a spring clamp, or a cold-shoe adapter. Orient the holder so the filter slides in or clips on without obstruction. Make sure the holder does not block the camera controls or viewfinder before tightening.
  4. 4. Tighten both locking knobs: Hand-tighten the locking knobs on both ball joints until the arm holds its position firmly. If the arm drifts under the weight of the filter, tighten further with a hex key. Over-tightening can strip the threads; stop when the arm no longer moves.
  5. 5. Test the range of motion: Swing the filter in and out of the frame to confirm the arm moves freely when unlocked and stays put when locked. Adjust the ball-joint angles if the arm binds or the filter hits the lens barrel. If the arm is too short to reach the lens center, use a 6-inch extension arm or reposition the base mount closer to the lens.
