Quick answer
Take 3 astragalus capsules daily with a meal for steady immune support, starting with a lower dose to check tolerance. Consistency matters more than timing.
Why astragalus root works differently than single-nutrient immune supplements
Astragalus root is a traditional adaptogenic herb that supports immune function through polysaccharides and saponins, not a single isolated vitamin or mineral. This means it works gradually and is best used as a daily foundation rather than a quick fix. Unlike zinc or vitamin C, astragalus does not provide immediate immune activation, so you need to take it consistently for several weeks to notice its effects.
How to take astragalus capsules for immune support
- Step 1: Start with one capsule per day for the first week: Take 1 capsule with a meal to see how your body responds. Astragalus is generally well-tolerated, but starting low helps you notice any digestive sensitivity before committing to the full serving. If you experience bloating or loose stools, continue at 1 capsule for another week before increasing.
- Step 2: Increase to 3 capsules daily after the first week: Once you tolerate the single capsule, take 3 capsules together with a meal—breakfast or lunch works best. Taking them with food improves absorption and reduces any chance of stomach upset. A common mistake is skipping days. Set a daily reminder or keep the bottle next to your coffee maker or plate.
- Step 3: Use consistently for at least 4 to 6 weeks: Astragalus works gradually by supporting immune cell activity over time. You won’t feel an immediate boost, so stick with it daily. Mark your calendar at the 4-week point to assess how you feel. If you miss a day, just resume the next day—do not double up. Consistency, not perfection, matters.
