Quick answer
Unbox your GladRags Cloth Pad Starter Kit Plus, wash the pads before first use, then snap them around your underwear and wear them like a disposable pad. Follow the care steps below to keep them soft and absorbent for years.
Why choose the Plus sizes?
The Cloth Pad Starter Kit Plus includes longer and wider pads than standard cloth pads. This makes it a great fit if you prefer extra coverage, sleep on your side, or have a heavier flow early in your cycle. The kit contains a mix of liners, day pads, and a night pad — enough to cover part of your period and help you decide which sizes work best for you.
What the kit does not include
The Starter Kit Plus does not come with a wet bag or storage pouch. You will need a separate waterproof bag for carrying used pads when you are away from home. Also, because it is a starter set, it covers only part of your cycle — plan to supplement with additional pads if you want full-cycle coverage.
Step-by-step guide to using your Starter Kit Plus
- 1. Pre-wash before first use: Machine wash all pads on warm with a mild detergent. Do not use fabric softener or dryer sheets — they coat the fibers and reduce absorbency. Tumble dry low or line dry. This initial wash activates the cotton fibers so the pads reach full absorbency. Skipping the pre-wash can make the pads feel less absorbent at first. Wash them once before wearing.
- 2. Snap the pad around your underwear: Open the wings of the pad and wrap them around the crotch of your underwear. Press the snaps together on the outside of the fabric. The pad should lie flat against your underwear with no bunching. Adjust the position so the pad covers the area you need. If the pad shifts during wear, the snaps may be too loose or the underwear crotch too narrow. Try a wider pair of underwear for a more secure fit.
- 3. Change and store used pads: When the pad is wet, unsnap it and fold it with the soiled side inward. Store it in a dry, waterproof wet bag or a sealed container until laundry day. Do not let used pads sit in a damp bathroom — they can develop odors. Carry a small wet bag in your purse so you are never stuck without a place to store a used pad.
- 4. Rinse and launder: Rinse used pads in cold water until the water runs mostly clear. Soak them in a bowl of cold water for 15–30 minutes if needed. Then machine wash on warm with a regular load. Avoid bleach and fabric softener. Line drying extends the life of the elastic and snaps. Hot water can set stains. Always start with a cold rinse before the warm wash.
