Quick Answer
To use Ezra and Nehemiah metal coins, simply replace the punchboard coins during setup, distribute them to players, and manage them like standard currency—no rule changes needed.
Why Metal Coins Change the Feel Without Changing the Rules
The metal coins are a deluxe upgrade that replaces the punchboard coins included with the game. They don't alter any gameplay mechanics; they simply enhance the tactile experience and table presence.
Because the denominations match the original coins, you can seamlessly swap them in without adjusting any rules or player aids. This makes them an easy addition for both new and experienced players.
Step-by-Step Guide to Using the Metal Coins
- Unbox and Organize: Open the metal coin set and sort the coins by denomination. Check that you have the correct counts as listed in the game's rulebook. Organizing by denomination speeds up setup and prevents confusion during play.
- Replace the Punchboard Coins: During game setup, remove the punchboard coins from the game box and place the metal coins in the supply area, matching the denominations to the game's starting supply. Keep the punchboard coins as a backup; they can be used if you misplace a metal coin.
- Distribute to Players: Hand out the metal coins to players according to the game's starting resources, just as you would with the cardboard tokens. Ensure each player has the correct denominations to avoid mid-game shortages.
- Use During Play: Treat the metal coins exactly like the original coins: use them for payments, purchases, and any other coin transactions in the game. No rule changes needed—simply enjoy the improved tactile feedback.
- Store and Maintain: After the game, collect all coins and store them in the provided bag or a small container. Keep them away from moisture to prevent tarnishing. Proper storage keeps the coins looking great for future plays.
