Quick Answer
To use the Sleeping Baby Woodlands Zippy Swaddle, lay your baby on the open swaddle, place their arms inside the wings, zip up, and ensure the swaddle is snug but not tight. Always place your baby on their back in a safe sleep environment.
Why the Zippy Swaddle Design Works
The Woodlands Zippy Swaddle is designed to mimic the cozy feeling of the womb, which helps babies feel secure and sleep more soundly. The zippered wings prevent wild hand movements that can startle your baby awake, a common cause of short naps.
This swaddle follows safe sleep recommendations from the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), so you can use it with confidence for naps and nighttime sleep.
Step-by-Step Guide to Using the Woodlands Zippy Swaddle
- Prepare the Swaddle: Lay the Zippy Swaddle flat on a safe, firm surface with the zipper facing up. Unzip it completely so the wings are open. Common mistake: Trying to place baby into a partially zipped swaddle. Always unzip fully first.
- Position Your Baby: Place your baby on their back in the center of the swaddle, with their shoulders aligned with the top edge of the fabric. Checkpoint: Ensure baby's head is above the fabric and their face is uncovered at all times.
- Secure the Wings: Bring one wing across your baby's chest and zip it closed. Repeat with the other wing. The swaddle should be snug but allow room for hips and knees to move freely. Common mistake: Over-tightening can restrict hip movement. The swaddle should feel like a gentle hug.
- Final Safety Check: Place your baby on their back in a crib or bassinet with no loose bedding, pillows, or toys. Check that the swaddle is not too loose and that baby's face is clear. Remember: Stop using the swaddle as soon as your baby shows signs of rolling over.
