Quick answer
Slide the Julius-K9 IDC Pressure Distribution Pad onto the harness chest strap so it sits flat against your dog's sternum, then adjust the strap tension until the pad stays centered without slipping.
Why the pad makes a difference
The IDC Pressure Distribution Pad spreads the pulling force from the harness over a wider area, reducing concentrated pressure on your dog's chest. This is especially helpful for dogs with short coats or sensitive skin that chafe easily.
Without the pad, the harness strap can dig in during long walks or training sessions. The pad adds a layer of cushioning without adding noticeable bulk.
How to install the pad in 4 steps
- 1. Unclip the chest strap: Open the buckle on the front chest strap of your Julius-K9 harness. Slide the pad onto the strap so the curved side faces your dog's body and the flat side faces outward. Make sure the pad is not twisted — the fabric should lie smooth.
- 2. Position the pad over the sternum: Center the pad on your dog's chest, just behind the front legs. It should sit flat, not ride up toward the throat or slip down onto the belly. If the pad shifts when you move the strap, it is too loose.
- 3. Re-buckle and adjust tension: Clip the chest strap closed and tighten it so the pad stays in place but still allows two fingers to slide between the strap and your dog's body. A common mistake is overtightening — the pad should cushion, not compress.
- 4. Check fit during movement: Walk your dog a few steps and watch the pad. It should remain centered without sliding sideways. If it moves, reposition and tighten the strap slightly. Recheck the fit after the first 10 minutes of wear; straps can loosen as the dog moves.
