Quick answer
Wash your organic cotton baby blanket on a gentle cycle with mild detergent and air dry flat to preserve its softness and shape.
Why organic cotton needs special care
Organic cotton fibers are more delicate than conventional cotton because they haven't been treated with harsh chemicals. This means your blanket stays softer and more breathable, but it also requires a gentler washing routine to prevent shrinking or pilling.
The Cotton Boulevard Organic Cotton Knitted Baby Blanket is naturally breathable, which helps regulate your baby's temperature during sleep. Proper care ensures it continues to provide that comfort wash after wash.
Step-by-step wash and dry guide
- Check the care label: Always read the manufacturer's label before washing. Most organic cotton baby blankets can be machine washed on a gentle cycle, but some may recommend hand washing. Skipping this step risks damaging the blanket or voiding its warranty.
- Pre-treat stains gently: Apply a small amount of mild baby detergent directly to stains and gently rub with your fingers. Avoid using bleach or stain removers with harsh chemicals, as they can weaken organic fibers. Harsh stain removers may cause discoloration or fiber damage.
- Wash on a cold, gentle cycle: Set your machine to cold water and the gentle or delicate cycle. Use a mild, fragrance-free detergent designed for baby clothes. Overloading the machine can cause uneven cleaning and extra wear. Hot water can shrink organic cotton, and strong detergents may strip natural oils from the fibers.
- Dry flat, away from direct heat: After washing, gently reshape the blanket while damp and lay it flat on a clean towel or drying rack. Avoid wringing, hanging, or using a tumble dryer, as these can stretch or shrink the knitted fabric. Hanging a wet knitted blanket can cause it to lose its shape permanently.
