How to Set Up and Play with the Expansion
- Shuffle the expansion cards into the base deck: Open the expansion pack and combine all 200 new cards with your existing Puns of Anarchy deck. Shuffle thoroughly to ensure even distribution. Don't separate expansion cards—mixing them completely prevents predictable draws.
- Adjust the Category Card draw pile: Place all Category Cards (base + expansion) face down in a single draw pile. Each round, draw one Category Card to determine the pun category. If you prefer shorter games, remove 10-15 Category Cards from the combined pile before shuffling.
- Play a round to test the new flow: Deal 7 Punnable Cards per player (same as base game). The judge draws a Category Card and reads it aloud. Players then have 90 seconds to form puns using their cards. The expansion adds more obscure categories—if a category feels too hard, allow 120 seconds for that round.
- Score and rotate the judge: After time runs out, each player reads their best pun. The judge awards 1 point for the funniest pun. Rotate the judge clockwise each round. New players often forget to rotate the judge—set a visible token to track who judges next.
- Store cards separately to preserve condition: After play, separate the expansion cards from the base deck and store them in the expansion box. This prevents wear and makes future setup faster. Use card sleeves for the most-played Category Cards—they get shuffled more often and show wear first.
