The only trade-off is that you don't get a new decorative vessel. If you love the look of a different container, you may prefer buying the full set. But for most people, reusing the same bottle is the smarter, more sustainable choice.
How to refresh your home fragrance with a reed oil refill
- Remove the old oil and reeds: Take the used rattan reeds out of your diffuser vessel and discard them. Pour any remaining oil down the drain or into a sealed container for disposal. Rinse the vessel with warm water and mild soap, then dry it completely. Don't skip the rinse — leftover oil can mix with the new scent and alter the fragrance.
- Pour in the new refill oil: Open your reed oil refill bottle and pour the entire 4oz of fragrance oil into the clean, dry vessel. If your vessel has a narrow neck, use a small funnel to avoid spills. Pour slowly to avoid air bubbles, which can slow down the wicking process.
- Insert the fresh reeds: Take the eight new 6.5" rattan reeds from the refill package and place them into the oil. Fan them out slightly so they don't touch each other — this allows air to circulate and helps the scent travel. If you want a stronger scent, flip the reeds after 24 hours. For a lighter aroma, flip only a few reeds at a time.
