Seashells vs Mushroom Watercolor Pencils: Which to Pick

Quick answer

Choose Seashells if you want a classic, nature-themed set with 24 pencils; choose Yumi's Mushrooms if you prefer whimsical woodland art and a slightly lower price.

Artwork and theme differences

Both sets turn drawings into watercolors with a wet brush, but the packaging art sets the tone. Seashells features vividly flourishing mushrooms by watercolorist Hazel Jarvis, while Yumi's Mushrooms showcases adorable woodland animals in imaginative mushroom homes by painter Yumi Kitagishi.

If your child loves collecting shells or beach motifs, the Seashells theme may resonate more. If they're into fantasy woodland scenes, the Yumi's Mushrooms artwork is likely a hit.

Pencil count and price trade-off

Seashells gives you 24 artist-quality pencils, while Yumi's Mushrooms also offers a full set but at a slightly lower price. More pencils can mean more color variety, but the price difference might matter if you're buying multiple sets or gifts.

Neither set's exact pencil count for Yumi's Mushrooms is specified, but both are marketed as complete watercolor pencil sets. If color range is your priority, the 24-pencil Seashells set is the safer bet.

How to choose between Seashells and Mushroom pencils
