Quick answer
Use the Toast Select Luxe's automatic bread-type adjustment, then rely on Lift & Look and A Bit More to fine-tune browning without over-toasting.
Why bread type matters
Different breads—white, whole wheat, rye, sourdough—have varying moisture and density. The Toast Select Luxe automatically adjusts toasting time based on the bread you select, so you don't have to guess. This is the foundation of even browning.
The LED countdown helps you plan
The LED countdown indicator shows remaining toasting time. This lets you anticipate when to check progress, reducing the urge to cancel early or over-toast.
Steps for even browning
- Select your bread type: Turn the dial to match the bread you're toasting (e.g., white, whole wheat, rye). The toaster automatically sets the base toasting time. Skipping this step can lead to uneven results—white bread toasts faster than dense rye.
- Set the browning level: Use the shade dial to choose your preferred doneness (1-7). The bread-type adjustment works on top of this setting. Start with a medium setting (4) for most breads; adjust up or down only after the first slice.
- Use Lift & Look mid-cycle: Lift the lever to check progress without cancelling the cycle. Lower it back to continue toasting. This prevents opening the toaster and losing heat, which can cause uneven browning.
- Press A Bit More if needed: After the cycle ends, press 'A Bit More' to add a short burst of heat. This is better than restarting from scratch. Don't use A Bit More repeatedly—two presses max to avoid over-toasting one side.
- Clean the crumb tray regularly: Remove and empty the crumb tray after every few uses. Built-up crumbs can burn and affect toasting consistency. A clean toaster heats more evenly and avoids smoky smells.
