Quick answer

The Skyscratchers Base Game gives you the core tower, cat tokens, and starter cards; the Expansion pack adds the Penthouse of Peril module with crazier cat toys, barking dogs, and a stray cat. Open both boxes, sort the components, then follow these steps to set up your first game.

Why the bundle matters

The Base Game alone is a complete tower-building experience, but the Expansion pack transforms the game into a chaotic rooftop party. The Penthouse of Peril sits on top of the base tower and introduces new hazards like barking dogs and a mischievous stray cat that can topple your plans. If you enjoy high-risk, high-reward gameplay, the bundle gives you the full sandbox right away.

What you get in the box

Inside the Base Game you'll find the main tower pieces, player tokens, and a deck of action cards. The Expansion adds the Penthouse module, extra cat toys, dog tokens, and the stray cat card. Both boxes ship together when you pre-order, so you can unbox everything at once. The catalog price for the bundle is USD 30.95, compared to USD 44.21 if bought separately.

How to unbox and set up the Skyscratchers bundle

  1. Open both boxes and sort components: Take the Base Game and Expansion boxes. Remove the tower base, tower floors, player tokens, and action cards from the Base Game. From the Expansion, take the Penthouse of Peril module, extra cat toys, dog tokens, and the stray cat card. Common mistake: mixing Expansion components with Base Game cards. Keep the Expansion pieces separate until you read the rules.
  2. Assemble the tower base: Place the tower base on a flat surface. Stack the tower floors from the Base Game in the order shown in the rulebook. Leave the top floor empty for the Penthouse module. Make sure each floor clicks into place. A wobbly tower will collapse mid-game.
  3. Add the Penthouse of Peril module: Take the Penthouse piece from the Expansion and place it on top of the highest empty floor. It should sit flush and stable. If the Penthouse feels loose, check that the tower floors are fully seated. A loose top piece can fall off during play.
  4. Distribute player tokens and action cards: Give each player their chosen cat token (from the Base Game) and a hand of action cards. Shuffle the remaining cards into a draw pile. Don't include the Expansion's stray cat card in the draw pile yet. It's a special card that enters play later.
  5. Place the Expansion hazards: Set the dog tokens and extra cat toys from the Expansion near the tower. These are triggered by specific action cards or player choices. Common mistake: putting dog tokens on the tower before they are called. Keep them off the tower until a card says so.
  6. Review the rulebook for the Penthouse rules: Read the Expansion rule sheet that explains how the stray cat and barking dogs work. These rules override or add to the Base Game rules. Skipping the Expansion rules leads to confusion. The stray cat moves unpredictably and can knock over pieces.
  7. Start your first game: Follow the Base Game turn order. When a card or situation mentions the Penthouse, refer to the Expansion rules. Play until one player's tower collapses or the deck runs out. First game tip: play without the Expansion if you want to learn the basics first. Add the Penthouse once everyone is comfortable.
