Quick answer

A sofubi figure is a soft vinyl toy made in Japan using rotational casting, known for its unique texture, hand-painted details, and limited production. The Hakusai-kun Moonlight Night edition is a recent larger release from Fewmany that includes a removable pot.

How sofubi differs from standard vinyl figures

Standard vinyl figures are often mass-produced using injection molding, which creates a harder, more uniform surface. Sofubi (short for "soft vinyl") uses a rotational casting process that yields a softer, slightly flexible material with a distinct matte finish. Each piece can have subtle variations in color and texture, making every figure one of a kind.

Because sofubi is typically hand-painted and produced in smaller batches, it tends to be more expensive than a typical blind-box vinyl figure. The trade-off is a higher level of artistry and collectibility, especially for fans of Japanese designer toys.

Why the Hakusai-kun Moonlight Night edition stands out

Originally debuting in Medicom's Vinyl Artist Gacha Series 37 as a small capsule toy, Hakusai-kun has been reimagined by Fewmany as a larger, more detailed sofubi figure. The Moonlight Night colorway features a translucent blue glow that evokes a moonlit garden, and the removable pot adds a playful display option.

At $35.96 (compared to a catalog price of $58.00), this edition offers a rare entry point into owning a dedicated sofubi piece from a respected Japanese designer, Saki Takita.
