Quick answer
BetaLock is a carabiner with a built-in key-operated deadbolt lock that lets you secure zippers, bags, and gear to fixed objects. Use it alone to lock a single item or pair it with the BetaLock Accessory Cable to tether multiple pieces of equipment.
What makes BetaLock different from a regular carabiner
Most carabiners only clip things together. BetaLock adds a key-operated deadbolt that prevents the gate from opening, so nothing can be unclipped without your key. This makes it useful for securing luggage zippers, locking a backpack to a chair, or keeping a camera bag closed while you sleep on a train.
The trade-off is weight. At roughly 2 ounces with an aircraft-grade aluminum body, it is heavier than a standard lightweight carabiner. If you carry ultralight gear and never lock anything, a plain carabiner may be enough.
When to use BetaLock with the Accessory Cable
The BetaLock Accessory Cable turns your single lock point into a flexible tether. You can loop the cable through a helmet, a water bottle, or a tripod and then lock it to your bag. This is especially useful in hostels, cafes, or airport lounges where you want to keep your gear within arm’s reach but prevent someone from walking off with it.
One limitation: the cable is designed only for the BetaLock system. It does not work with standard padlocks or combination locks. If you already own a different lock system, the cable will not fit.
How to use BetaLock step by step
How do I lock a zipper or bag?
Insert the key, turn to unlock the gate, clip the BetaLock through the zipper pulls or a strap, then turn the key to lock the gate. Remove the key. The gate will not open until you insert and turn the key again.
How do I tether gear with the Accessory Cable?
Loop the cable around the item you want to secure (helmet, bag handle, tripod leg). Pass the cable end through the BetaLock’s gate and lock it as described above. The cable cannot be removed without unlocking the carabiner. Make sure the cable is snug enough that the item cannot slide out, but not so tight that you cannot key the lock.
Can I use BetaLock without the key?
Yes. When the deadbolt is unlocked, BetaLock functions as a standard carabiner. You can clip and unclip normally. Only lock it when you need theft deterrence. Keep the key accessible but separate from the lock so you do not lose both at once.

BetaLock™: BetaLock works as a carabiner, a lock, or both — keeping your essentials secure with an aircraft-grade aluminum build and a key-operated deadbolt design. You can use it as a standard clip when you don’t need security and lock it only when you do, so you are not carrying a single-purpose lock.
