Quick answer
The Dairobo-B Mecha Half Ray 5" Dunny Green Edition is a Kidrobot exclusive that combines Dolly Oblong's signature style with a translucent robotic design. It's best for collectors who want a unique variant of the classic Dunny form, but its semi-transparent plastic may show fingerprints more than solid-color figures.
Why the Green Edition stands out
Unlike standard Dunny releases, the Mecha Half Ray design reveals the inner mechanical structure through a translucent green shell. This gives the figure a distinct look that changes with lighting—something solid-color Dunnys can't offer. The green hue is exclusive to Kidrobot, so it won't appear in other retailers' stock.
If you already own the Dairobo-Z 5" Dunny, this piece works as an android companion rather than a direct repeat. The Mecha Half Ray sculpt is new, not a simple recolor.
Trade-offs to consider
The translucent green plastic is prone to visible smudges and scratches. If you plan to handle the figure frequently or display it in a high-traffic area, you may need to clean it more often than an opaque figure.
Because it's an exclusive, availability is limited to Kidrobot's own channels. Once sold out, secondary market prices may rise significantly. If you're on the fence, act early or accept that you might pay a premium later.
Decision rules for the Dairobo-B Green Edition
- Buy if you value exclusivity: This Green Edition is a Kidrobot exclusive, meaning it won't be sold through other retailers. If limited availability matters to you, this is a strong pick.
- Buy if you like translucent figures: The green translucent shell lets you see the internal mecha design. If your collection already features solid-color Dunnys, this adds visual variety. Check your display lighting—translucent figures look best with backlighting or strong ambient light.
- Skip if you prefer opaque finishes: If you dislike visible fingerprints or prefer a uniform matte look, a standard solid-color Dunny will be easier to maintain.
- Skip if you're budget-conscious: At $31.99 (compared to a catalog price of $49.99), it's a discount from the reference price, but still a deliberate purchase. If you're not committed to the Mecha Half Ray line, consider a standard Dunny instead.
