Quick answer
For a standard cot, choose a baby bedding set with a 70x100 cm duvet and a 40x45 cm pillow case, made from organic cotton with a zipper closure for easy washing.
Why Size Matters for Cot Bedding
Cot mattresses vary slightly by brand, but most standard cots in Europe and many other regions use a 70x100 cm mattress. A bedding set that matches these dimensions ensures a snug fit, reducing the risk of loose fabric that could cover your baby's face. Always check your cot mattress measurements before buying.
The pillow case included in a set is typically 40x45 cm, designed for a small, flat baby pillow. If your cot uses a different mattress size, look for a set that explicitly matches it.
Fabric and Breathability
Organic cotton is a top choice for baby bedding because it's soft, breathable, and free from harsh chemicals. Breathable fabrics help regulate your baby's temperature and reduce the risk of overheating. Look for certifications like GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) to verify the organic claim.
All the bedding sets we mention are made from 100% organic cotton and are GOTS certified, giving you peace of mind about the materials next to your baby's skin.
Closure Type and Care
Zipper closures are a practical feature for baby bedding. They keep the duvet securely inside the cover and make changing the bedding quicker. Many sets also come with a matching fabric tote bag, which is useful for storage or as a gift.
To maintain the shape and longevity of the bedding, always wash it with the zipper closed. This prevents the fabric from twisting or snagging during the wash cycle.
Decision Rules for Choosing a Baby Bedding Set
- Measure Your Cot Mattress: Confirm your cot mattress is 70x100 cm. If it's a different size, look for a bedding set that matches those exact dimensions to ensure safety.
- Prioritize Organic Cotton: Choose a set made from 100% organic cotton with GOTS certification. This ensures the fabric is soft, breathable, and free from harmful chemicals. Check the label for GOTS certification before buying.
- Look for a Zipper Closure: A zipper closure keeps the duvet securely inside the cover and makes washing and changing easier. Wash the bedding with the zipper closed to maintain its shape.
